Founded in 1912 by Thomas Brooke Stanley, this year we're celebrating our centenary. We've loads of camps and adventurous activities planned for the coming year.

Scouting is open to all boys and girls between the ages of 6-18. We also welcome adults who'd like to help us.

May Camp

Every year, we try to camp on a new site, if possible. This year our new camp was at Whitley Beaumont just outside Huddersfield. It's a traditional scout site. No activities but scouting and therefore idea for doing a training camp. 22 scouts went this time. The weather was cold, in fact colder than our Freezer camp in February. Our programme centred on using knife, axe and saw and lighting fires and cooking on them. A couple of the older PL's built a bivvy. A good weekend where I'm sure the scouts picked up some useful tips for the Enigma Camp next month.

Balloon Olympics

With 100 days to go until the olympics. We held the very 1st Beaver Scout Balloon Olympics. The 2 team captains was Team Potatoes Brad and Team Milkshake Phil, For our opening ceremony we all sang 'our scout camp van'

The games were

Ballon Hopping, each team member had to race from one end to the other and pass it on to the next person
Balloon Squash, 2 people from each team had the balloon squashed between thier tummies and they raced from one end to the other
Balloon Balancing,
Balancing a Balloon on a paper plate, each team menbert had to go over and under obstecales
Balloon Badminton, sat on chairs oppisite each other they could punch, kick or hit the balloon over to the other team, they scored points when the balloon went over the other teams head
and then a relay races, good old fashioned relay race against each other.

Bit of cheating went on by each team so the ref Michelle declaried the 1st balloon olympics a draw.

Good night had by beavers and leaders

Art

Torrential rain put paid for the beavers plans for an outdoor meeting. Therefore our intrepid beavers took time to prepare more material for their forthcoming art exhibition.

New Scouting Game App

The first ever Scout game app is now live on the App Store and as an Android app on Google Play. The all action game showcases the best of Scouting skills and activities and includes three arcade style mini-games: hang-gliding, mountain boarding and kayaking.

Players create their own character, boy or girl, customising neckerchief, uniform, hair and skin colour and then enter a virtual world. They then engage in a series of challenges in order to find the Chief Scout's secret knowledge.

The game, developed by the Fyzz Facility and Swipe Entertainment, allows the player to embarks on a journey through the sky, sea and land, meeting characters including the Chief Scout himself. 'Look out for the official Scouts' game app,' says Bear Grylls, 'You're going to love it!'
